Geezer Alert!

Yes I'm a Geezer! 67 years old! I first got into VR way back in the late 90's when I was living in England. When I moved back to the states I didn't have access and let it go .. Now I'm back! PS4-VR is my very first gaming console and I'm having great difficulty finding out how to use the controllers and navigate around the GUI - desperately trying to find a 6 year old to help me. I've also been into computers since the late 70's so technology isn't new to me. My first OS was CP/M - that's OLD - Bill Gates hadn't evn dropped out of high school yet.

If anyone could direct me to some help pages or tutorials that would be awesome!

Im afraid I cant help on the PS VR front as I dont have one. I do however dabble in VR using mobile, google cardboard etc.

Thanks for the welcome Oberon! It's not the VR I need help with, it's the console and controllers!

I've been a gamer since the beginning way back in the late 70's so I'm pretty much mouse and keyboard driven with a joy stick here and there. And when I said this was my first gaming console I mean my first. I have the dual shock thingys and the move motion controllers .. how can I tell the console I'd like to switch to a different set of controllers?

Hey! Welcome aboard!

I always found the Move motion controllers to be a pain in the arse. I have a set for my PS3 (which can be used for PS4. I like how they didn't change them from console to console). I never was able to get them to sync right. Haven't played with them on my PS4 since I have no games that support them and VR is out of my price range ATM. But to answer your question, you need to first sync the controllers with the PS4 (the Move controllers). And if you have the Dual Shock 4 on at the same time, you need to shut it off by pressing the PS button on the controller and hold it. It will bring up the menu. You just move down to the device properties and shut it off :)

Thanks Titan! I'm hoping the next generation controllers will be gloves. I ended up putting my camera on a tripod so I could get it closer which seemed to help the motion controllers get better accuracy.

Morrowind vs Morrowind Upgrade

back in the olden days (when the pterodactyls came to the pterodactyl feeders), one of my all time favorite games was Ultima Underworld the Stygian Abyss! It looks like the Elder Scroll series is very much like it .. especially the graphics in the first two before Morrowind. I think I'm going to start with Morrowind. I'm finding the Morrowind Collectors Edition and Morrowind upgrade. Back then, upgrades were essentially add ons to already installed games .. is this the same case? Do I need to buy the Morrowind and the upgrade as well?

I feel like Nintendo tried that with spectacular results ;)

Also, I'm just waiting for brain implants so I can think about what I want to do in a game and it does it. With the way the world is going, we'll all be chipped within the decade :D

Thanks for the welcome Alex.

FYI - do not under any circumstances try to download a 67 gig game via wifi unless you want about 15 hours to clean your house while waiting. Whew .. got me some Cat6E cable and a switch box .. going to be busy this weekend.

You can put your console in rest mode and download the game while you're sleeping.
He's not a cat Alex. Even if he slept 8 hours, he still has 7 hours to kill ;) I mean, granted, he can catch the early bird special while he's waiting but that will take an hour, hour and a half tops so that would mean 5.5 to 6 hours to kill. Feeding the ducks takes maybe an hour. That's 4.5 to 5 hours. If he has a sweet classic car, washing, polishing and tuning it up will take the remaining time :)

Lol .. don't have a sweet classic car but here is a vintage picture of me and computers (Osborne) before DOS was born. Note the vintage phone in the background.

Thanks. I still have that phone - somewhere. It occurs to me I was playing online, real time, multiplayer role playing games since the early 80's. Back then we logged onto Tymnet which used to be Arpanet, logged into the Source which turned into Compuserve. Games like Island of Kesmai and Galactic Empire. Women were very a very rare thing in these game. I'm really looking forward to getting into EOS - if the disk ever gets here. The epic download didn't work for some reason. Hope the disk does.

Me too. I remember I have played Command and Conquer: Red Alert on PC, using a 14.4k analogic modem, by making a standard phone call to connect with a friend of mine. It was around the years '87-'88 of XX century. :grin

Xera, do you play other online games than EOS on PS4? I have many and we could play together if you like the idea.
