I was thinking about a new logo for the Forum, which could be more rememberable by the visitors and a bit more customized.

I post 3 draft examples, to be discussed and changed eventually (or forgotten by the admin :grin ):

Of course, if we are happy with the actual logo, please never mind my try :)

-edit-
If someone wants to play with graphics and stuffs, I used this applet to make the drafts:

If you want my honest opinion, you would want to make the forum logo have something to do with the content of the forum; ie, PlayStation font, maybe the PS logo, etc. Not gonna lie, was always a little confused about our banner here. Perhaps I'm just picky as a forum owner myself :)

All 3 say Playstation forum, PS4forum.com it couldn't be more plain what the content of the forum is about?
Yeah but a logo should be some kind of representation of what the brand is about. And because this is a forum, the logo should be more representative of the content of the forum. Hands and a spiral thing don't really say anything about this site. Creates confusion. I'll show you what I mean. I whipped this up in about 45 minutes while I'm waiting for my girlfriend to get ready and come by my place (and because she's a woman, I had ample time ;)). As you see, it's simple and represents what the forum is about; it's a PlayStation logo stylized in the more current generation blue styling and PS4 font.

I saved this as a PSD file too so I can make changes to the fonts, colors, etc at the click of a button. The background is actually transparent. I just colored it as close to the banner's grey as possible. And I know it seems big. I just wanted a lot of workspace. I can crop it to whatever dimensions vBulletin or the admins require :)

You would have to have lived under a very big rock for many a year not to get what the first 3 in the thread represent.

Yours doesn't even give the site any credit.

I have changed my vote to lets stay as it is, the logo was never really a problem but it would appear it is now.

Haha. I live under a rock? Good one. Ok, I'll get to that later.

Let me show you my point here. Below are a bunch of logos from a 2 minute Google search of both PS4 AND Xbox forums/sites out there, just to show I'm not biased and certain design elements are used (and actually, I think one of the Xbox forums is our sister site).

You see what they all have in common? They all have something to do with the gaming platform THEY represent. Push Square is a PS news site but they also have an active forum. But you see the connection there? The square? Designed right into their name and logo, fashioned like the square button. PlayStation Trophies. Admittedly this is my least favorite, however, it's also using the blue and white that is commonly associated with PS4's official site and marketing. PS Life, their logo has the square, X, triangle and O in the background of their text. And the text is simple and clean. Xboxone, uses the greens and font of the Xbox. Same with Xboxforum.pl with the Xbox controller. XBF, their own logo design with the Xbox font below in grey. So again, they all have the design cues of the consoles they represent and a visitor to those sites will make that instant association.

Yours doesn't even give the site any credit.
How does mine NOT give the site any credit? You failed to elaborate on this one and had no substance on that claim. Based on the other logos out there, my design is more in line with what other sites are doing. It also gives that instant association as a PS4 site by using PS design elements (font, logo). It gives credit to both the PlayStation AND the site as a PlayStation fan forum. It's that simple association in the readers mind, which is why a lot of fan sites use elements from the brand they are making the pages about. Lets say for example, you make a forum that is about parenting. You don't make your banner/logo with a saw blade and Metallica font, like you wouldn't make an Xbox forum in PlayStation font. You choose design elements that cater to your target audience. So, seeing as this is a PlayStation forum, and the target audience is PlayStation gamers, you would use PlayStation elements in your design. And like I said when I posted my version, I did it quickly as an example and spent maybe 45 minutes on it, probably less actually. Obviously, if I was serious about it I would have spent much more time on it. The banner on my site took me hours upon hours to do and get perfect.

Listen, I'm not knocking Alex's designs, but being experienced in this, I put my two cents in. If this was a general gaming forum, they would probably work fine (honestly, the third one would work best for a general gaming forum). Contrary to what you think (because I apparently live under a big rock), I did get what he was going for (elements of community, the target on the third one, game controller, etc). But I don't feel they represent what the forum is about and a visitor will not make that instant association of this being a PlayStation forum with a logo like that. There are no PS design cues and I don't feel they don't make sense for a PlayStation fan forum, hence why I said they are confusing. It's confusing because it is claiming to be a site about PS4 but doesn't represent PlayStation gaming in any way. A logo is the first thing people see, and the first impression visitors have to your site and it should represent the subject of the site.

Now, on a personal note, it's not like I don't have experience with this. As an owner myself, I have done countless hours of research on sites and internet forums (talking with forum owners about forum layouts, graphic designs, marketing, etc), and studying numerous gaming websites picking up on their design cues. And I also used to work with graphics for a living. So no, I do not live under a rock :)

I didn't say you lived under a rock I said "You would have to have lived under a very big rock for many a year not to get what the first 3 in the thread represent" you as in all PS4 owners.

Can the Admins tell us the original logo stays and put this pointless debate to bed?

I liked the logo designs but I did respect what Titan said. I think one of the reasons people might not stick around on here is because of design choice. If you see what some the other PS forums on the net look like, they're playstation branding central and they're using common colours associated with playstation e.g Blues, Whites, the control button colours etc.

I know people say content is what people come for but quite often it is design what people come for as well.

Just my two cents.

I hear what you're saying and I agree that it could deter people from lack of PS centric branding. However, I don't think the core of the design keeps people away. This actually for a long time was the most popular PS4 forum I saw (there were a couple others like PS Independent which shut down in the last few months and not so much traffic). And this site shows up on the first page of Google rankings so that's a plus. I stuck around here because it was easy to navigate. Though I do agree about the colors. Not very PS centric. Though that could be changed in about 5 minutes by changing the CSS style sheets in the admin control panel. I think all you need to change is the teal to blue and it will work with the rest of the color scheme. Then update the logo to a more PS design.

Also, like I said before, I study other forums, not just gaming, and this site's traffic about average for a forum today. PHP forums are just not as popular as they were back in the day and I think mobile convenience is a big problem with them, as well as people using simpler and more general forums like Reddit. One thing I noticed was that as internet technology advanced, forum software just didn't really evolve with it (in retrospect, its around the time mobile technology was advancing exponentially). And as people migrated away, forums just became dedicated smaller communities and much more niche. I know apps like Tapatalk have come out (which thank god for it) and some forum software allows third party mods (SMF has a really good mobile mod/theme) but I think they came too late. Another issue is the way search engine algorithms work (btw, this is something I'm still learning so I may be off on this information). I'm trying to remember the specifics and the technical mumbo-jumbo but I just can't get the thought straight (and I don't like posting wrong info). Something about ranking sites based on traffic, traffic based on keywords, a bunch of technical crap. And now from what I hear they're changing it again to have mobile friendliness as a criteria for higher ranking.

Hi everyone, I'm in the middle of my busy work time of the year, taxes! But i like the logos. Honestly the problem in my eyes is that the whole site probably needs a makeover, my 2 cents. Like Oberon said, they are all pretty good. The logo would take but 5 mins to change. I'm okay with what the community wants, but i think a redesign gets to the heart of the matter.

Titan, I just posted drafts that didn't pretend to be definitive. Only ideas and a goad to changing. I don't have that PS font, do you? If you do, why don't you work on a logo and share it with us? :)

I'm okay with what the community wants
Thank you Frantic, please stay tuned because I think soon we will have the new logo for ps4forum.com :D

Oh gotcha. And yes I do have PS font. And I also have an idea or two on something for a logo. One idea is modifying the one we have. Probably can't work on it today but I'll play around in Photoshop when I get a moment and see what I come up with.

I have the day off so I whipped this up this afternoon. Basically took the old banner and tweaked it to make it more PS4 themed :)

When I get some more free time (maybe Sunday when my family is over ;) ) I'll make a couple more concepts.
