What did you love about the PS1?

    Hello, video gamers!

A few hours ago, I made a thread asking which specific thing did you hate about the PS1? First of all, I'd like to thank you for your replies as they were very insightful. Today I have another question for you, specifically it's the opposite of what I've asked previously. What did you love about the PS1?

Let me start. The greatest thing I loved, and still do, about the PS1 was the library of games it had. Honestly, it had one of the best selection of games for a very selective gamer like me. It had games under RPG, FPS, RTS, and more! Heck, it even had Barbie games, and for sure, everyone loves Barbie games!

It's your turn to share. Start the discussion!

The compactness. I'm the one that typically favors big consoles for whatever reason, but the PS1 was well designed for traveling. The console was pretty compact, and you can store it in a bag easily. Some of the games were not the greatest, but I found some games to be very fun. It's been a while since I touched it, it's probably collecting dust in my closet.

Thank you for your insightful response. With that, I have to agree with you a hundred percent. It was so compact that I could just bring it to a friends house and play some PS1 games with him. I remember a time where I had so much fun playing him that when I had to go home, I forgot to bring my PS1 back home with me! Thankfully, he was a good friend and he brought back my console a few minutes after. That's one reason why I love compact things.

The games of course! It's one of the home consoles with the largest library of games in history. The console always had something for every gamer. I love the third party support that it had, I loved the controller, and I loved the way that it brought a smile to my face every time I played. It's one of the greatest consoles ever made.

I loved the games for the PS1. When I first got the system, I was hooked instantly. I played the console almost everyday! I loved the games that were out at the time. I had games like Frogger, Rugrats Search For Reptar, NFL BLITZ, Need For Speed, NBA Showtime, Grand Theft Auto. It was incredible. I also loved how small the system was. It made it easier to carry around if you were packing it for a trip somewhere. Compare PS1 to the size of the PS2(the regular version, not slim one), there was a huge difference. Obviously the system is dated at the current time, but I think for its time period, it was very innovative and exciting.

Hell yes, the PS1 had one of THE best library of games in gaming history. Looking for an RTS game? They have a Warcraft Port! Looking for a racing game? There goes Need for Speed! Looking for an RPG Game? Look no further, here's Final Fantasy! Jesus, this might sound over exaggerated, but I have never run out of games to play while I using my PS1. I even got my own mother addicted to video gaming due to Harvest Moon!

I didn't really like PS1 all that much when I first got to play it. I felt a lot of the games were still kind of in a start up stage, the loading times were too long, and I didn't like the way half the buttons of the controller were on top. By the PS2, I'd learned to live with the controller, even though I still very much prefer the traditional style, even up until now actually, and the loading times weren't as bad anymore, so I'd say it was the PS2 that really gained me as a Playstation fan. But overall, if I had to pick something I liked with PS1 or PS2, I'd say it was mostly the games. There were a lot of them so you'd never run out, and not only were there a lot of titles but a lot of them were good too.

It's the game library that made the PS1 what everyone loved. The graphics at the time were mind blowing, and the diversity in titles was great for every owner of the console.

I miss that on the current gen consoles, and i don't think that the next one will be any better.

The PS1 was awesome, especially at that time. Firstly, it was small and had this slick shape to it. Compared to the original PS2; which was huge and was very box-cut shape - no style whatsoever. The color gave it a futuristic edge, whereas the PS2 just looked like a DVD player.

I also loved how light the system was. All of these new systems are heavy as heck. LOL

The fact it was better than a family computer just made it one of the best consoles when I first played on it. It's really simple and it doesn't really require a manual to use. Most of my favorite games are only available in PS1.
