Have you ever broken a controller?

Have you ever gotten so mad at a game that you've broken controller?

I have, but surprisingly not any of my Sony controllers. I remember I would toss my Dual Shock 2 across the room when I would get upset playing DBZ Budokai 2 on PS2. I still get mad at games, but I don't throw controllers anymore. It really changes your perspective when you are the one paying for them haha.

I had destroyed 2 PS1 controllers, 1 PS2 controller and 1 PS3 controller. I dunno. No matter how careful I am with regards to controllers, I still find a way to break a controller. The analog stick of my PS2 controller no longer functions, the shoulder buttons of my PS1 couldn't be pressed, and I've dropped my PS3 controller more than once so I have to press the buttons harder.

Sony controllers are really durable. I don't know how they compare to the competitions', but I've dropped my PS2 controllers dozens of times and nothing really happened. Even through the abuse of my friends who press buttons like wild animals, they don't break.

Not on my PS2 but I remember having to replace my Genesis one a few times, mostly by cheap knockoffs which also got destroyed. What can I say, I was pretty easy to irritate as a little kid.

I've never broken any controllers in my life, whenever I get mad in a game I usually take it out on the couch I almost broke my arm once, though, I wasn't mad or anything, I was just playing WipeOut and I was so into the game that I fell from my chair trying to make it through a very sharp turn.

Nice to see that I wasn't the only child with anger problems when playing games haha. I have also broken a number of controllers from overuse as well. With the price of controllers now a days, I could never afford to break controllers like that.

I have gotten mad at a game before, but not mad enough to break a controller. I like to keep my controller in good condition because I need it to play with. I still get mad but I just yell and fuss rather than throw my controller around. The last thing I want is to be unable to finish playing my game.

Yeah good point. It was just immaturity for me as a kid. Just to clarify though, I never smashed a controller off the floor. It was just that controllers would eventually stop working properly after repetitive abuse from me tossing them.

Not broken, but i used to throw the controller in the air and spin it, don't ask me why i did it, but it was something that i did when i lost or during loading screens.

I quickly had to lose that habit because controllers are wireless now.

I used to disarrange all my PS2 controllers. They had those wires that made me break all them... We been lucky that the PS3 didn't have wires because I broke that PS2 controllers every 2 or 3 months... lol

I've broken two MadCatz controllers on the PS2 on the same game (Monster Rancher 3). It was after raising a monster, getting it to B or A rank and having it die of old age. I'd see that cut scene of the monster walking off slowly to die somewhere, bite the cord, and just throw it. Second time I just broke it in my hands because of all the time I put into that monster's growth.

As for the DualShock, never. Those just had a habit of the X button sticking on PS1/PS2...which sucked since X was like the most important button.

I have broken controllers from wear and tear, but never out of frustration or anything. Although I have broken a controller out of frustration on my Xbox console.

There are situations in the game where you are so frustrated and as a result you throw your controller in anger. However, you are reminded that this is only a game, and you have everything to lose if you break your controller. True, you will go back to the scene where you left off, but you can't restore a damaged controller. It's best to save as often as possible in order to avoid venting out your anger on games that you worked so hard to accomplish. As for me, I haven't broken a PS2 controller, much less a PS1 controller. At most, it's only the analog controls that wear down and as a result I will have to have it repaired, especially for games where the analog stick serves as controlling the movement of the character.

Never broken a controller in anger.

I did however step on an XBox controller after having gotten home from work. I was wearing heavy work boots. Stepped on the left analog stick and broke it right off.

It's not your fault you stepped on it, themarting. That Xbox controller was cocky and had a death wish.

...starring Charles Bronson (but only the first two).
    Tomba and Ghost_of_Crash like this.

My kids have broken a few Wii remote is all. We won't let them touch the Wii U game pad, replacing that is more expensive then replacing the Wii U lol

I've wore out controllers from those QTE movies some developers call games

I have 3 controllers right now and either my wife and I or my kids seem to drop it a lot. We watch Hulu+ and leave it on the arm of the chair and forget it's there. Then we bump into it, now one of them is practically becoming naked, the case is almost off. They still work but one of them is glitchy.
