    Charging station. Worth It?

As the title states, anyone have the charging station for the controllers and are they really worth it. Trying to figure out the benefit of it since I can charge them with the cable already.

i personally rather the cables since you can charge and play at the same time but the charging station would be good if you're charging it overnight so you don't have it laying around with the wire on.

Didn't even think about that. Makes even less sense now. I guess all it would really be good for its having a nice place to put them so they are not laying around.

yeah basically and if the wire they give you isn't long enough you can purchase a 3rd party one from amazon thats like 10 Ft long or whatever for a relatively cheap price. Just make sure to read the reviews on it beforehand.

Yeah it's not bad, you keep them charged and organized. Otherwise they usually end up anywhere and die when you need them the most.

The charging stations can also be used purely to dock your controller someplace so they do not get damaged from kicking them about or tangling them too much, but they are still useful for charging them when they are not in use. Not just overnight, either. Have you ever stopped playing for about a week and come back only to find that the batteries are low? I hated that too. All in all, they are worth the extra money if you find a problem with charging it the traditional way.

If you leave your controller charging overnight, yeah it's worth it. Otherwise I wouldn't bother because if you want to play you just connect the controller.

Im not really into these charging stations and just use a longer cable and charge while I play but was thinking, what the hell,Ill look into them.
I was looking at getting the Energizer PS4 charging station.I know jstep is a fan of the PS3 version and was also looking at the PS4 version.
But was just checking ebay and found a few cheaper ones, one in particular also has the LED's (like the Energizer one),red to show its charging and green when its charged.
So bought one for about AUD $10 posted. The Energizer one is over 3 times the price.

the original ps4 charging dock is a really solid piece of kit.

I use mine to dock my ps4 controllers (i have 2) when not in use to avoid kids or dogs knocking them off the coffee table etc and another big plus is it charges through a charging jack on the opposite side of the controller to the usb which is designed for many more connect / disconnect cycles than the micro usb connector. Micro usb cables and their plugs and sockets are notorious for getting damaged especially if someone sits on it when plugged in or worse walks by and yanks the lead with their foot.

Obviously you cant play and charge at the same time but with 2 controllers and the vast majority of games being single player this hasnt been a problem so far.

well worth the 24 i paid for mine

I don't know. The cable really isn't all the inconvenient as a charging method and it comes with the system.

I don't know if I can justify the extra cash for a peripheral that does something I can already do. Though I'd probably get it if I had pets or something where I wouldn't want to keep the controllers within chewing reach and I could place the station up high.

Does it charge it faster or something? Though it would be convenient like others said to have a place to actually put the controllers where they wouldn't be damaged. A little extra for organization that also serves a secondary purpose.

It would probably just come down to finances, if you've got the extra cash to throw around then why not? I'm sure it would look fancy sitting on a table next the chair or couch you normally play from. Cables do have a way of just ruining the decor.

I honestly don't find the cable that inconvenient to warrant a 15$ purchase of a purely cosmetic item.
Leaving the controllers charging over night just doesn't feel that much of a bonus.

Vaulick raises a very good point though. If I had pets around the house, I would most likely consider buying one.
Chewed up controllers are pretty awful to hold, I can tell you that from some bad past experiences.

I use a charging station. Its totally worth it. I never play for such long sessions that my controllers go dead. When I'm done after playing a few hours, I throw it on and when I come back a couple hours later, its charged and ready to go (that's assuming its at 1 third power or less). I never liked the USB cables. Though I just hate being connected to the console so before the station, I would use the controller till it was totally dead. Also, if a controller goes dead and it needs to charge, I have to plug it into my console and leave the console on for a couple hours to let it charge. The other reason I like them is it keeps my coffee table more organized. I don't have controllers just strewn about.

When getting a charging station, you have to read the reviews. When I looked for the one for my PS3, I looked at a lot of cheaper third party stations and they either broke a some time down the road or the way they docked didn't suit my needs. The one I bought for my PS3 is the Sony station and it works great. It has a low profile connector the goes on the top of the console that doesn't take lots of room (and it looks damn good too. Like its supposed to be part of the controller) and it just pops right into the top of the station. I have a third party one for my Move that I inherited from my brothers friend (who actually gave me the Move) and I don't like it (though can't complain much cause it was all free, lol). I have to manually tell it to charge the controllers and the controllers don't sit very well into it. You tap the station and they wiggle out of the charging ports.

I like it and I think it's worth it just for the aesthetics alone. I admit that it doesn't really offer that much in terms of additional benefits, and you're probably still going to be using the chord a lot more to charge since it's much better for when you are playing, but it is a pretty nifty option to have and it looks a lot nicer on the desk this way.

You know, I never really thought they were worth it until I actually got one as a gift, and now I am realizing I love it! It just helps keep me a lot more "organized" I guess you can say. If you can afford one I would recommend it.

I got the Energizer version cuz it was great on the Ps3 and I dont like a bunch wires stickin out of the front of my system prefering a clean look. The problem with the Energizer is just as another gamer stated above that the micro usb's are flimsy and I find myself having to carefully and slowly port them each time which is annoying. It does not mount as well as the PS3 version at all. Ill probly pick up the another one at the top of the thread. I do like the lights though. Works good when u gotta wake up in the middle of the night to take a leak lol.

It's not bad, but I'd buy some longer wires so that you can play and charge at the same time. But if you don't have many long gaming sessions, a charging station like this would be great for you.

If you can afford it then it is worth your while to buy a charging station. I normally play long gaming sessions and prefer to use the cables. It does look nice and will keep your controllers ready for when you want to play. Might still get a charging station, did not think I would before starting to read this post and all the replies!

It's always useful to have one. It's worth the price if you use it even if you don't have to. It's more a gadget than a necessity but it's an useful gadget. So if you can afford to get one, go for it.

    Save you money!

A charging station is definitely not worth it when you can just plug the controller in to your PS4 USB port. There is literally no need at all for a charging station. If you do not like using your USB port. You can use a wall charger. There are much better options, than buying a docking station.

A very comfortable solution to have controlers always charged and ready. I'm glad I bought it.

If you can charge your controllers already, then a charging station would just be a luxurious accessory.

I picked up a charging station because I thought it looked cool. Like someone previously said, it's a nice little storing spot for your controllers when you're not using them. However, I wouldn't say that it's a must-buy. You'd be alright charging the controllers with the cord if you wanted to save a little bit of $$.
