How's your MLB 14 the Show career going ?

Bit like the NBA2K thread, i thought i'd start a same one for MLB14.

I'm an 18 year old 3b. Got drafted 5th round by the Cincinnati Reds. Playing in the double A's for team Pencicola Wahoos.

Batting started off on fire and was league leading with a 0.475 batting average. But after a ten game lean spell of if being 0.200 i'm down to 5th with it now at 0.345.

However i lead the league in home runs ( 10 ) and second in RBi's 31 ( leader at the moment has 32 ) but as i'm batting 5 in the order, my AB's in the 3rd month of play is about 50 less at plate apperances than the league leaders.

Very strangely, i have had 2 pinch hit AB's and on BOTH occasions, hit 2 first pitch Home Runs!!! Go figure!

My lean spell i discovered that as i've been putting my attributes to my contact and power, the normal swing hits were starting to carry to the outfielders in stead of dropping over the infields heads. I've hit so many going going going... caught at the track fly balls, or ripped huge hits straight to fielders its not funny anymore. SO i'm now having to use contact swing to get my average OB % back up, so i can then get enough performance points to add to my power to get these fly balls to get out the park instead of lifting them to the outfield.

As i've put all my attributes into contact, plate reckonigtion and power, my player has NO speed whatever when running! I've been picked off 3 times !!! I can't take any leads on base or i won't get back in time, even if i react well!!

My 3B play, started off really shaky, but i've now got 2 gold medals for the fieldiing in the training sessions, but not even got 1 bronze for my batting. I tend to swing at too many, but that aspect of my game ( just swinging at strikes ) is getting much better.

The Wahoos are leading the division by 1 game and we're 19-11 at the moment.

I might start to see if i can broadcast my gameplay as it's ever so intreaguing playing this stuependous game like this!

Well since I pre-ordered the game from Gamestop I got 60K points as a pre-order bonus, so I made the ultimate player lol I was in the minors less then a week. It actually made the game no fun at all

I made a center fielder. And am putting all my points in speed/contact/fielding. Its really fun once I learned how to field the balls etc. Got Drafted by Atlanta, actually pinch hit in the World Series, and played 2 innings in left field, we lost lol I got traded to the Oakland A's and dropped back down to Double-A for nearly a whole season, their AA team was like 40-4, before being called up to AAA, then traded to Texas for what seemed like 4 games before being traded to the Twins, I played half a season in AAA before being called up to the majors where I'm currently a rated 91 starting Center fielder for them.

I only have 1 year left on my contract, trying to get a multiple year deal out of them, they're a bargain basement team in this game it seems, w'ere like 40-70, if not I'll ask to be traded.

I hope I don't end up a washed out player stuck in the minors until I am 45 lol

^^^ wow that's interesting stuff. I didn't realize the game went into that much depth for the career mode ie the team would trade you etc.

I'm playing full seasons ( i think ) and have to say the way these guys must day in day out be so consistant for so long when they must be burnt out is a bit of an eye opener.

I have a 3B player who is doing great, actually. I got called up to the majors the first year. My team is in second to last, but I am doing well. I have but one month left in the current season. However, I became bored with batting and created a pitcher. Right now he is playing AAA baseball for the Cubs; I was lucky enough to get drafted to my team. Pitching is going well...ish. I have a 2.2 ERA mostly because they took me out last game in the 8th... with only 82 pitches... because I had two runners on and the relief pitcher gave up the runs. (I was winning 4-1.) My only beef with pitching is how truly inconsistent the umpires can be. It is utterly brutal. There are times when I can throw a ball right down the middle of the plate and he will not call a strike. I have never had him call a ball a strike, ever. But umpires will regularly call clear strikes, balls. I do not understand it. I think the game forces me to do bad. I'm not sure; it is a little unfair.

Re the umpires, i believe you can change the settings of them, and their consistance and accuracy in the slider settings.

Re my 3B player. We're at the end of the second month of play and his BA is again down a little to .340 now but i'm still around 5th. RBI's joint top and HR joint top. He keeps choking when the bases are loaded though! My player is only 18 years old so i would have thought if i keep this pace up with him, he'll get promoted to triple a at least by the end of the year. I'll doubt he'll make the jump stright to the majors. Then have a year in triple A, get enough points to get his power / contact right up so that these swings start going out the park regularly.

Got to the end of the 3rd month of play of double A and in my rookie year as 18 year old i made the all star game as starting 3b but i've still not had any offer's to move up to triple A or the majors yet ! I had a great game in the all star game too went 3 for 5.

My batting average is 2nd in the league @ 0.355, i've hit the most home runs 19, i've had about 50 AB's less than the leading batters but still 8th in the league on hits. I,m number 1 at RBI's, so doing well, and just been on a Home run streak of 3 in the last 3. Made a pinch hit appearance and hit a long double to the wall to end the home run streak tho .

    Question.

If you make a hit, the fielder can't field it cleanly, and you still reach base, why does that not go down as a base hit, and goes down as an error instead ? It's not my fault the fielder couldn't make the stop, and maybe because i hit the ball so hard it forced the fielder to not field it cleanly. Why aren't they classed as base hits ? Some of the hits these guys can't make on my hits would be doubles let alone base hits!

Well here's my end of season stats! I played all but one game. I tried to sim a game and the Ai decided to give me a 0 for 4 AB!!!

    AB 448 ( 30th in the league )
    H 174 ( 2nd )
    RBI 119 ( 1st )
    Doubles 38 ( 2nd )
    Triples 1
    Home Runs 33 ( 1st )
    Batting Average 0.388 ( 1st )

OPS 1.089 what does OPS stand for ??

So as you can see pretty good start for my 18 year old self at 3rd Base.

I'm currently in the playoffs at the end of the year, but in a 5 game series my team is already 0 - 2. The commentators are saying i'm carrying the hits for my team!

well that's all a bit shit really.

I am the batting star of the Double A's,( stats above ) my team gets knocked out in the playoffs, despite me doing all i can to keep them there, and in the off season the only contract offer i get is from my own team to stay right where i am. I don't even get moved up to tripleA's!!! for crying out loud! All i get is a congrats from the manager for the leagues best slugging and OPS stats.

I thought i might get to move up to triple A at least, seeing as i was the leagues all star batting leader and 3rd Baseman. I started the minor league all star game.

My contract offer is for just 50K.

    Why wasn't i moved up to triple A ?
Why hasn't a MLB team taken a punt on me ?
I thought the game would be more indepth

When it got to the bit in the game where is said the only contract you have been offered in the offseason is the one from the red's to stay in the wahoo's in double A. All i had the choice to do was sign it, or retire... where's the option to stick my fingers up at my team and i go find another one. The game says i have to be in the minor leagues 6 years before i can become a FA minor league player. So i'm stuck here in the minors for 6 years! Sod this...
