Hoping this will revitalize the EverQuest series

I loved the first game dearly, but after a couple of the expansions came out along with the subscription, it just got to be too expensive. Years after I cancelled my subscription and decided to play it again, it didn't feel the same. It just wasn't as fun as it was when I had started playing it around the time it first came out. After that I tried going to EverQuest II, but it just felt too much like the other MMORPGs we have right now; especially World of Warcraft. When I saw you could build things and there was environment damage in this one, I just had to get excited for it.

Hope it's as good as EverQuest once was!

Oh my God, I prefer Everquest over Wow, any freaking day! I hope to play Everquest Next soon, I think it's coming out soon.

Wait, do I have to pay? Cause after reading this topic I decided to google it and try it but I see subscription stuff. I don't wanna pay, I just bought a pc upgrade.

I played EQ non-stop at one time. My first exposure was through EQ: Online Adventures on PS2 before eventually playing EQ through private servers recently. Here's hoping EQ Next pumps some life back into the franchise. It's been coasting for awhile.

Pretty sure now that the first and second EverQuest games are free to play with subscription giving better stuff, they'd probably do the same with EverQuest Next. Seeing as how most MMORPGs now do the same too, they'd have to have a free-to-play model to be competitive. Examples like RIFT, TERA, and The Old Republic don't help when talking about the "success" of subscription-based MMORPGs.

I'm with Richie, it'll be F2P...probably with a higher level cap and exclusive quests, etc. for subscribers.

EQ Next should revive the EQ series. It's not dead, but it's been dormant for a looooong time.

Yeah, it's been in hibernation for a long time. It's still one of the best MMORPGs, but it's been put on the back burner with all the F2P and samey anime MMORPGs out there.

Not a huge fan of anime MMORPGs, but there's a sizable market for those. That said I'm hoping EQ Next will be huge for PS4. It should be since the EQ series is basically Sony's first, consistent foray into gaming.

Looks like EQ Next will be F2P. Sony has some method to getting their money though, they just have to make it enticing.

Oh Sony will make that method work for them. You don't just go F2P and not pull money somehow. That's not wise. "We put quite a bit of time into these new games (that we could've put into full on games that you'd have to pay for) so that you can play for freeeeeee! Actual game mechanics, strong graphics, oodles of quests and skill trees...all free! And we're not expecting you to pay for anything extra."

    Nah, son.

Sony has some services--All Access or whatever--that gives extra stuff I think. So you can play free unrestricted, but that service has bonus perks...maybe some regular +X% XP weekends or boosted +X% XP weekends for members on this and normal +X% XP weekends for F2P players.

I see that approach working for EQ Next and other Sony titles because as Tomba said: "Nah son" to just full on, free games that are equal for everyone and free of any leg ups. When games offer free to play there's always some sort pay to win/pay to advance.

The good thing here is that more people will get to play EQ since there's no pay restriction and all of those expansions.
