Rate the last Vita game you played

So there's a thread just like this for PS3 games so I thought there should be one for Vita games too. Share your opinions on whichever was the last game you played on the Vita and give it a score you think it deserves!

    I'll start with...

Yu-Nama: The Puzzle (PSM) - 9/10 - A really fun match-3 game. Unlike most match-3 games, you match up things by breaking blocks and you can slide them around too, so it's much less limiting and more fun to make big combos than most games.

Basically, this game is part of the Badman ("What did I do to deserve this, My Lord?" and "No Heroes Allowed!"). As always, a bunch of heroes want to come take the evil overlord so it is your duty to create monsters to defeat the heroes and protect the overlord. In the previous game this was done as a complex dungeon-building sim, basically, but this time around it's a much simpler and faster match-3 game. You have a bunch of color-coded monsters at your disposal such as the Slimes, Omnoms and Dragons.

Now here's where it gets fun. The monsters are tiles. You combine three Slimes and you spawn slimes that attack the heroes. However, you also spawn one 1 Omnom tile. So everytime you match 3, you spawn monsters and create a new tile of a higher level. There's 5 levels, the last one being the Dragon which breaks all non-monster blocks in the field. The heroes attack by spawning lines of unbreakable blocks on the puzzle board, so Dragons are saviours!

Well, that's the basics of it. The game is meant to be played in long sittings, since each stage is played after each other and there's 10 stages plus 10 "extra" stages which are harder than the regular ones. The game's biggest flaw is that it has no leaderboards.

Also worth checking is the free-to-play "No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either!" which is a Vita-native title. The F2P restrictions are ridiculous and I like Yu-Nama's more... survival-mode like setup than NHA: NPE's separate puzzles, but it's worth checking out. NHA: NPE! does have a fair lot of content unique to that version.

Well, noone else has rated any other game but I've played another that I want to give my thoughts on.

Lone Survivor - 8/10 - A 2D survival horror. It's centered around a more psychological type of horror, similar to Silent Hill, so there's no cheap jump scares. Instead, the horror comes from not even knowing what is real and what isn't.

You start out in a nightmare, which serves as a tutorial. When you complete this hellish nightmare, you character wakes up and comments on how he should go out and look for other survivors. Apparently, he's the only one left after some sort of disease has struck the world and turned people into monsters. He has no food left and his stove has run out of gas, so he also has to search for resources.

The game is rather slow and most situations with enemies can be resolved in two ways: use tricks to distract them and hide past them or shoot them up. The resources are limited. Bait is infinite, but you can carry a limited amount, for example. Ammo is very limited and the monsters take many shots. This means that, most of the time, you will have to switch between styles to properly survive. Of course, more experienced players should be able to easily go through without killing any monster or using bait only once (there's even trophies for those).

You also have to keep your character's status in mind. He gets tired or hungry so you have to go back home and sleep and find some food. Proper sleep schedules and good food also help him to be slightly less insane.

The story is odd, and there's not much of solid linear plot. Instead, you're just trying to survive and find survivors. Maybe find out why the world is its current state, maybe find out what is going on with your own head and such. It's deep enough and symbolic to allow for interesting interpretations, similar to Silent Hill though I feel that Lone Survivor is vaguer.

Now the flaws... the "combat" is clunky. You only have one weapon during the entire game, a handgun. You aim up, straight or down. That's about it. It's the typical "meh" combat mechanics used by a lot of survival horror games, but even simpler than most similar games. The cutscenes are also mostly unskippable and feature odd long pauses during dialogues, which can get grating on repeat playthroughs. Also, the methods to get different endings are very obscure.

It's also a very short game, my first playthrough being around 3 hours long. Not a real issue, since the shortness actually made me go through it 2 more times to get the Platinum trophy. The length is just fine. Still, I felt I should mention it.

The Vita version's only exclusive features is the ability to control menus with the touchscreen, though I found this clunkier than just using the buttons. It's also cross-buy with the PS3 version. Also good to keep in mind is that the Playstation version brought on a lot of new content compared to the PC original, including two new endings, but the PC original got this content included in a patch eventually. In the end, the PS3, Vita and PC versions are nearly identical.

In the end, it's a very damn solid survival horror game, in my opinion. I'm not generally a big fan of the genre but I've heard a lot of Silent Hill fans praising the game and saying that it's more of a proper SH game than the latest entries to that franchise, haha.

    The Vita threads are lonely!

Luftrausers - 7.5/10 for the game but 9/10 for the Vita version.

I just bought Luftrausers yesterday and have been playing it quite a bit. It is a perfect game for the Vita because there is no time wasted on stories or loading new games, just press up twice and take to the skies. Every game is different and you can perfect techniques for each different upgrade to find what you like the best. This game was made for short bursts of big time fun but can also be enjoyed for longer periods of time.

Yes, the Vita section isn't lively, makes me sad.

Anyway, Luftrausers sounds like a lot of fun, gonna buy it at some point.

I have played both of those. Not beaten, but played a lot. They are pretty good indeed! Daily challenges in Unit 13 are real fun.

Alright, so here's a new little review from me. The game this time is... Doki Doki Universe!

The game has a charming graphical style and a seemingly charming story to tell about a robot who tries to learn to understand others better. That's nice. The thing is that the game itself feels like an overly limited, boring Scribblenauts. You go around to various planets talking to people and they sometimes ask for stuff, which you mostly solve by summoning one of 300 things (similar to Scribblenauts, as I said, but limited to 300 items and no word play) or talking to other people. The funny and charming characters are the only saving grace for the main game, because there isn't much gameplay and what's there is not that great. I also have to mention that the game has awful performance on the Vita, it really performs worse than Borderlands 2 on Vita!

Aside from the boring main game, there's a set of charming personality tests which you can do. These serve no point other than to unlock decorations for your home planet. However, I found them pretty entertaining and did all of them. It's not all good, though, because there's apparently 4 sets of 12 tests which are all locked as "DLC". You can see them plainly on the universe map. I have not seen if there's any other way to unlock them, but approaching them gives me a link to the PSN store page for them...

There's not much to it other than the quirky fun characters and the personality tests, but I have not beaten the game. It does not draw me in at all, though, especially with the bad performance, so it's a strong candidate for deletion whenever I have to make space on my Vita again, sadly.

    I'd give it about a 4/10.

    Spelunky 7/10

A 2D cave exploring game with a twist. Each level you play through is randomly generated, meaning every time you die you come back with a different experience. There has to be atleast 50 different enemys spread apart between 5 different worlds. (one of them is secret and and only has one level. Were as the other worlds have four.) After getting fighting a mini-boss and beating the fourth world, you have to fight the final boss. After beating him you can either exit the cave and beat the game, or enter the city of gold. (needs certain items to be found to unlock the door). Spelunky was rateed 7/10 because of the replay value and the difficulty. Plus the characters to unlock and the multiple endings.

I need to grab Spelunky myself sometime, but I have a feeling it will end up on PS+ eventually. I have it on 360, though. My only real complaint about that game is that the soundtrack is pretty lame, the one in the free original was actually better...

I was playing Uncharted and I must say that even when that game is on the Vita I still think that it is one of the best games that I have ever had the opportunity to play. I mean to me the graphics were off the chain and I really think that it is the reason that I really liked to play the game on the Vita.

Right now I'm playing Don't Starve: Giant Edition. I want to keep this short but the game is excellent. Very nice dark but cute and funny style, very deep survival gameplay, very challenging and there's very good variety of play styles with the different characters. My favorite so far is Wendy, a depressed little girl that can summon the ghost of her dead twin sister by sacrificing animals to her flower when it's charged. There's a guy who grows a beard (best for Winter survival), a robot that gets powered by lightning and gears but suffers damage from water, an insomniac old lady that can craft most things from the start, etc, etc.

I'm really enjoying it so far, I would have to say it deserves a 9/10. The only issue is that it takes a long while to generate a world each time, but it's understandable.

    Killzone Mercenary - 8/10

Great example of what the PS Vita can do! Great game too, if a little on the short side (took me less then 4 hours apparently) but lots of re-playability! Online I didn't dabble into too much, but I can speak on the single-player experience which again was great.

Forgot to post this almost a week ago but while I was on holiday, I finally (after a year of attempting to finish it) pushed myself into finishing The Walking Dead: Season One on the PS Vita.

And boy am I glad I did as it was fantastic. It's not something I could play again as I feel that would damage the experience. The ending was absolutely heart-breaking and one that I'll remember for a while. Great characters and even better story. Just grabbed the second season for the PS4 so I'm looking forward to playing that one as soon as I can.

Last one that i finished is Freedom Wars.

Lovely combat system, with enough weapon variety and the thorn, which makes everything more dynamic.

Excelent customization within the character and the upgrade for weapons (and facilities) are good aswell.

The story lacks of depth, but it is sure enough to make you stick with the background and the dialogues.

Playing online makes everything better, way better.

Alao, the punishment system makes you think about breaking the rules but you'll do it anyway.

Overall, is a must-have for anyone, andit could be a system seller.

    9.5/10
